Glenfarclas 24 Year Old - First Fill Sherry Single Malt Scotch Whisky - Millennium Cask No.12 YEAR 2000
FOR SAME DAY UK SHIPPING (MONDAY - FRIDAY)
Release 3 of the limited-edition Glenfarclas Decanter Series.
To mark the dawn of a new Millennium, a selection of the finest casks were chosen and filled by members of the Grant Family and staff. Distilling and filling casks on New Year’s Eve as well as New Year’s Day. These casks were proudly selected and filled by the Grant family and employees, including current Chairman John L. S. Grant (5th generation family owner), who was present for both of these memorable fillings. An opportunity like this arises once every thousand years, and Glenfarclas made the decision to fill late on the 31st of December 1999 and early on the 1st of January 2000. This series of casks is believed to be some of the first and last casks filled in Scotland in their respective millennia.
Of the casks filled, this stunning first fill sherry butt has been selected by Pol Roger Portfolio to be released as the third whisky in their limited-edition Glenfarclas Decanter series. The 12th cask filled on the 1st day of the new millennia has been selected to become part of the Pol Roger Portfolio limited-edition Glenfarclas Decanter series exclusive to the UK market.
The Whisky
600 of these decanters were filled with the precious whisky, bottled at 47.4% ABV and at natural colour.
Tasting Notes
Nose: The Sherry aromas come though immediately. Nutty, sweet, cognac vapours. The woody notes are released in the glass, all spice, cinnamon, nutmeg with hints of fesh Saville oranges. A true experience of Christmas in a glass.
Palate: The sherry again is the main player. Layers of Seville oranges dipped in sweet dark chocolate, with dark fruits dancing around the palate, releasing a wonderful balance of the alcohol and the old wood, a true marriage, made at Glenfarclas
Finish: Extremely long and lingering finish that exceeds way beyond the abv. The oak is dominant here, dry and almost bitter. This is less chocolate orange and more dark cocoa and less sweet baking spices as there is on the nose.
