There are strong ties between Kentucky and Ireland, two of the world’s most renowned whiskey makers.
Irish immigrants helped found Kentucky and start the bourbon industry in the 1800s—and the Irish whiskey industry relies on used bourbon barrels to age their spirits.
Renowned whiskey maker Kentucky Owl® is honoring this beautiful friendship with a special expression of Kentucky straight bourbon blended through “Irish eyes.”
For the release, Kentucky Owl® master blender John Rhea partnered with Louise McGuane, founder of J.J. Corry Irish Whiskey.
She is also Ireland’s first modern whiskey bonder, a technique once commonplace that faded in the 1930s as the Irish whiskey industry collapsed.
McGuane began resurrecting this tradition in 2015, sourcing whiskey from distilleries all over Ireland and pairing them with casks from all over the world.
The result, dubbed Kentucky Owl® St. Patrick’s Limited Edition, is uniquely Kentucky Owl® but with the underlying echo of Irish whiskey.
Once sipped, the whiskey offers long notes of caramel, butterscotch and frosted cinnamon roll, then bursts with a juicy fruit flavour.
Nose: : Sweet caramel and honey with just enough spice married in, to pleasantly tease the palate.
Palate: : Long notes of caramel, butterscotch, frosted cinnamon roll. Chocolate Orange, Candy floss and into some citrus peel. A bright forest fruit on the mild palate
Finish: A long lingering finish with vanilla pod and some balanced wood influence.
